Study Groups

The ISO runs a number of small study or discussion groups. These are a great way to learn and discuss topics in a smaller group and more relaxed setting than our branch meetings.

The groups range in subject matter from introductory marxism to more specialised topics. Check out the list below to find a group that suits your interest.

  • Introduction to Marxism   ( 0 Articles )

This group is the perfect starting place if you're new to the theory of Socialism. Each week we will be be choosing a reading from one of our great intorductory pamphlets.

This study group meets each Tuesday at 4pm upstairs in the Otago University Link

  • Women's Liberation   ( 0 Articles )

Each week we will be choosing a reading relating to a Women's Liberation or Sexual Politics topic

We meet every Friday at 4:15pm upstairs in the Otago University Link

  • Current Events   ( 1 Article )

Each week we take an article relating to a current event and discuss it in a Marxist context. The articles are sourced from a variety of publications, the only real restriction is that the authors generally will not be socialists.

These study groups are held at 7:30pm each Tuesday. For more information, have a chat to an ISO member at one of our Branch meetings or on our stall.

  • Capital   ( 0 Articles )

Each week we read a chapter from Marx's Capital, then meet on Sunday afternoon to discuss the chapter with the help of a video lecture from David Harvey.

If you would like to buy a copy of Capital, then we usually have a couple of copies on our Stall and at our Branch meetings. Otherwise the, University Library has a couple of copied for loan and The University Bookshop can order you a copy on demand (aprox. price $40)

The Lecture series can be found online at http://davidharvey.org
