Pro-democracy protests rocked Iran in June after the presidential election was stolen from the moderate ‘reformist’ Mir-Hossein Mousavi.  The bloody repression that followed drew international condemnation.  But things are more complicated than they appear.  Barack Obama and other western leaders constantly gyrate between supporting limited reform negotiating with Iran’s current reactionary leaders.  Nor is the media whitewash of the “Islamic revolution” the full story – the history real history of democracy in Iran is more radical than our rulers, east or west, would have us believe.
